Hi there!
Why not grab a cuppa, or favorite boozy beverage, and get to know me a bit better…
My name is Savitri Wilder and I am a lifelong learner with a passion to share knowledge with others.
My journey to the field of technology started after university where graduated with a BA in psychology and mass communications. My emphasis was graphic design and PR.
I never end up in a marking firm. The internet and tech industry was growing, I just upgraded to DSL, and I decided that I want to do more with the web.
What did all web design enthusiasts do in 1998? Open up FrontPage of course!
The first page I made was a personal page. While I don’t really remember what it looked like, I have this image in my head of a page full of gifs and possibly a WordArt title. Hey, a girl had to start somewhere, right?
But that got boring. And Ugly. My design skills weren’t refined yet then but my ugly design radar has always been strong. FrontPage was also a bit limiting.
I then learned about HTML and CSS. Not long after I stumbled upon Macromedia Dreamweaver.
I had these newfound skills. I wanted to do more than a personal page that nobody ever visited.
I wanted pretty, a bit of sparkle maybe, and one that others would want to visit. I looked at my collection of movies and singers I liked and there she was.
I got on the internet and browsed around to see what’s out there. There were a bit already. Many were not great and a handful was quite well put together. Of course, I wanted to be better, or at least at the same level as the nice ones.
I barely slept that week but in the end, I had one pretty good-looking Mariah Carey fan page. I know, I am embarrassingly sharing this with you all. I shared this with the team I will be working with just recently. My new boss was there and maybe, just maybe, he may have had a slight regret on him hiring me.
But it was during that Mariah Carey website era that I learned to design websites and do a bit of development also. I quit after Glitter came out but during its prime time, my site could be found on the first page of Yahoo (I think it was Yahoo then) and top 10 of many ranking sites.
After that, I started designing sites for small businesses, and also I got tasked to update my company’s wiki page.
In 2004 I started my grad program to obtain a Master in Technology Education. In 2006, my past experience and new degree landed me a job as an Instructional Technologist at the University of Central Missouri.
I loved my role very much. I got to do a little bit of all the things I loved: training, web designing, resaerch, software testing, and corse development.
I thrive in an environment where I can combine technology and design. I am fortunate to be able to work in two fully remote industries, the first as a Digital Content Creator and Social Media Consultant with a niche in the hospitality and tourism industry. And, the second as an Instructional Technologist with experience in higher/adult education. For both industries, I give my all to make learning and implementing the knowledge fun and engaging by harnessing the power of web apps, animation and, web-based courseware.
I am passionate about travel and different cultures and am open to domestic and international travel. I am located in Germany. You can see my photography and travels on my Instagram.
